Whittaker Federal Courthouse

Anchoring the north end of the Illus Davis Civic Mall in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, the Charles Evans Whittaker Federal Courthouse has become a prominent landmark. The crescent-shaped structure won a General Services Administration Design Award for Construction Excellence in 2000. Broadway worked on the project from the fall of 1997 until the building’s completion in 1999. As a comprehensive project, Broadway handled all electrical power from incoming feeders to branch circuit wiring, installed the switchgear, panel boards and transformers, emergency generator and installation of raceway systems. The enormous lighting package for the facility was in excess of 8000 fixtures. We also installed specialty wiring for custom lighting and dimming systems that are activated by keypad control. An automated motorized shade system to control interior lighting conditions and an exhaust system for a firing range are just two more examples of the many unique features of the 595,000-square-foot building.
