Jerry and
Constance Root and James Edwards founded Broadway Electrical Construction
Inc. in February
1983. In the early years of the company, Constance, Jerry’s wife,
of 15 years handled all of the accounting and administrative functions
while Jerry managed the operations of the field, office, and estimating
duties.
They also employed one part-time estimator and a small group of union
electricians. James remained a silent partner for the first 18 months
and then came to
Broadway to estimate and oversee project management. In 1985, in a mutually
amiable decision to go different directions, James sold his portion
of the company ownership to the Roots; the one-time partners have remained
friends
to this day.
Today, Broadway Electrical Construction is one of the region’s largest and most stable firms offering
full service electrical contracting, communications, and security systems.
In 1986, we moved from the Fairfax District to the centrally located industrial
district of the Kansas River basin in Kansas City, Kansas, known locally
as the Armourdale District, to accommodate the expansion of our business.
From an original project renovating a historic mid-town Kansas City hotel
and with extensive work on the construction of the General Motors Fairfax
Assembly Plant, our portfolio of work has expanded throughout the region
and in other major cities in the United States and Canada. During these
years we have completed thousands of jobs and are proud to be associated
with dozens of Kansas City’s landmark structures and enterprises.

One
of the outstanding aspects of Broadway is the stability and experience of
our workforce. Broadway Electrical Construction is a member of the National
Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and our electricians belong
to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local
124. Our
electricians receive their apprenticeships and ongoing education through
the industry’s most rigorous training program provided by the National
Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC).
Broadway is known for its business integrity, industry knowledge, and
dedication to hard work. A hallmark of our reputation rests on
the ability to develop
and maintain long-term relationships with our customers. The dedication
and reliability of our performance on complex projects, always within
tight budgetary and scheduling restraints, led to ongoing relationships
that have
made Broadway the premier electrical contractor and technology service provider
in the region.
